Chairman NAB Nazir Ahmed speaking about fraud prevention measures and real estate reforms in Lahore.

NAB Fraud Crackdown is set to take a more public approach, with Chairman NAB Lieutenant General (R) Nazir Ahmed announcing that individuals accused of defrauding the public could soon have their photographs published in newspaper advertisements as part of efforts to discourage financial fraud and increase accountability.

Speaking at an event in Lahore, the NAB chairman said the bureau believes in practical action rather than symbolic agreements. He emphasized that protecting citizens from fraud and strengthening confidence in business and investment sectors remain among the institution’s key priorities.

His remarks also included plans for major reforms in Pakistan’s real estate sector, claims regarding record recoveries, and proposals aimed at increasing transparency in property transactions.

⚖️ NAB Plans Public Identification of Fraudsters

During his address, the NAB chairman said individuals involved in large-scale fraud against the public would no longer remain hidden from scrutiny.

According to Nazir Ahmed, the bureau intends to publish advertisements carrying the photographs of those accused of deceiving citizens. He said the objective is to make the public aware of individuals allegedly involved in fraudulent schemes and to help prevent further financial losses.

The chairman argued that stronger deterrents are necessary because many people continue to fall victim to investment scams, housing fraud, and other deceptive practices.

He added that public awareness is an important tool in combating financial crimes and protecting ordinary citizens from exploitation.

💼 Business Community Receives Positive Signal

The NAB chairman also addressed concerns raised by the business community.

He said Pakistan’s business sector has not always received the recognition and support it deserves despite its contribution to economic growth. According to him, NAB has worked to address concerns raised by chambers of commerce and business forums.

Nazir Ahmed stated that around 20 cases were brought to his attention by business organizations and that most of them had already been resolved.

His comments appeared aimed at reassuring investors and businesses that accountability measures should not become obstacles to legitimate economic activity.

The chairman stressed that economic growth and accountability must move forward together.

🏗️ Major Real Estate Reforms Announced

A significant portion of the speech focused on reforms planned for Pakistan’s real estate sector.

According to the NAB chairman, authorities are preparing a comprehensive framework designed to improve transparency and reduce fraud in property transactions.

He said future property dealings would involve a more regulated process, with stronger verification mechanisms aimed at protecting buyers and investors.

One of the proposed changes would reduce reliance on cash-based transactions. Authorities believe greater documentation and transparency could help reduce disputes and fraudulent activities in the sector.

The chairman also indicated that several reforms are expected to be implemented in the coming months.

📑 Barcode System for Property Verification

Among the most notable proposals announced was the introduction of a barcode-based identification system for plots.

Nazir Ahmed said every plot would eventually carry a unique barcode-linked identification number. The move is intended to make property verification easier and reduce the risk of fake files and duplicate records.

Property-related fraud has long been a concern for investors, particularly in large housing schemes and development projects.

According to the chairman, stronger digital verification mechanisms would make it significantly harder for fraudsters to mislead buyers through forged documents or unauthorized property sales.

He also stated that future approvals related to real estate projects could be processed through a centralized system, allowing investors to access multiple regulatory services under one roof.

📊 NAB Claims Record Recovery Figures

The chairman also highlighted NAB’s recovery performance during his speech.

He claimed that recoveries worth approximately Rs15 trillion had been achieved over the past three years. According to him, this figure significantly exceeds the total recoveries recorded between 1999 and 2023.

Nazir Ahmed described the recoveries as evidence of NAB’s efforts to strengthen accountability and protect public resources.

While discussing these figures, he emphasized the importance of improving institutional efficiency and ensuring that recovered assets benefit the public interest.

The remarks drew attention because of the scale of the recovery figures mentioned during the event.

🚨 Warning for Real Estate Fraud Networks

The NAB chairman reserved some of his strongest remarks for individuals involved in organized property fraud.

He said those responsible for misleading investors and manipulating property records should face strict legal consequences. According to him, fraudulent activities in the real estate sector have caused significant financial losses to citizens over the years.

Nazir Ahmed stated that accountability institutions would continue pursuing cases involving housing scams, illegal schemes, and financial deception.

He reiterated that reforms currently under consideration are intended to improve transparency, strengthen investor confidence, and reduce opportunities for fraud.

As NAB moves forward with its proposed measures, attention will remain focused on how these reforms are implemented and whether they lead to meaningful improvements in accountability and consumer protection across the country.
