ICC replaces Bangladesh with Scotland in T20 World Cup as players and trophy appear in official announcement image

ICC replaces Bangladesh with Scotland in the T20 World Cup after the Bangladesh team declined to play matches in India, prompting the International Cricket Council to make a late tournament adjustment.

According to Indian media reports, the decision was finalized following Bangladesh’s refusal to tour India for scheduled fixtures. The ICC had earlier given the Bangladesh Cricket Board a 24-hour deadline to resolve the matter, but talks failed to reach a solution, leading to the governing body’s final move.

ICC Issues Formal Notification to Board Members

Sources said the ICC Chief Executive formally informed board members in writing that Bangladesh’s demands were not aligned with ICC policy. The communication stated that Bangladesh had failed to comply with board decisions, which ultimately resulted in their replacement.

The official notice was also sent to Bangladesh Cricket Board President Aminul Islam, who serves as a member of the ICC Board.

Cricket Scotland Receives Official Invitation

Alongside the decision, the ICC extended a formal invitation to Cricket Scotland to participate in the 2026 T20 World Cup. While Cricket Scotland confirmed receipt of the invitation, an immediate public response from its chief executive was not available.

Scotland Selected Based on Rankings and Past Performance

Officials confirmed that Scotland earned the spot based on its recent performances in ICC tournaments and its current global ranking of 14th. Scotland finished third in Group B during the 2024 T20 World Cup, demonstrating consistent competitiveness at the international level.

The team also recorded a historic victory over Bangladesh in the 2021 T20 World Cup, a result that remains one of Scotland’s most notable achievements in international cricket.
